Can an iPhone App Make You Happier? (Pt. 2)
A couple of weeks ago, we told you about Live Happy, a positive psychology iPhone application based on the research of Sonja Lyubomirsky. Download Live Happy and it will periodically prompt you to perform certain activities that research has shown make people happier.
Now we’re hearing about another happiness app, this one created for some doctoral research being conducted by Matt Killingsworth at Harvard University. It’s called Track Your Happiness, and according to its Web site, you can help Killingsworth out with his study while you “systematically track your happiness and find out what factors—for you personally—are associated with greater happiness.”
To get started, you enter some information about your life, such as whether you’re married, how much money you make, and which way your political views lean. Then, your phone will periodically prompt you with texts or emails to answer questions about what you’re doing and how you’re feeling at the moment. After 50 of these surveys, you’ll receive a report that, as you might imagine, shows how your happiness varies depending on things like where you are, who you’re with, and what time of the day it is.
